“Salão do Turismo”: everything about the São Paulo Tourism Fair 2025
14 de August de 2025It is time to protect Brazil and our future, ensuring the country is always the protagonist of its own history — never a mere supporting role.
“Sovereignty is non-negotiable”
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva – President of Brazil
When a country gives up its sovereignty, it loses the right to decide its future: the people “sign their own servitude” and begin living in a “rental Republic” — its territory is plundered, the population becomes hostage to foreign interests and the failed state — lacking real leadership — becomes a mere puppet of a foreign power. In other words, sovereignty is the final line between being free and being submissive.
In recent years, and even now, Brazil has faced direct attacks on our democracy: attempted coup d’états to install a dictatorship, actions to discredit elections, weaken institutions and put personal interests above all else, including the law. These episodes have raised an urgent warning about the importance of sovereignty — a topic that has become central both here and around the world.
Brazil is a natural and cultural powerhouse, endowed with unique riches, a hardworking, resilient and creative people, capable of turning dreams into a grand future. But this strength only materializes when we defend National Sovereignty — a principle enshrined in our 1988 Federal Constitution (Article 1, clause I).
Sovereignty is the shield against exploitation, foreign interference and internal projects that aim to dismantle the Democratic Rule of Law (a system in which power comes from the people, laws apply to everyone and no leader is above them).
1. The Constitution guarantees our independence and freedom
Sovereignty is clearly stated in Article 1, clause I, of the 1988 Federal Constitution, which affirms sovereignty as a fundamental principle of the country. The Constitution ensures that Brazil belongs to Brazilians and reaffirms the commitment to rights, freedom, security, development and justice.
This pact for sovereignty is vital for Brazil. Those who seek to weaken it — through external subservience or internal sabotage — attack the country itself. The Federal Constitution guarantees national sovereignty as a fundamental principle (Article 1, clause I), and the Military Penal Code (Article 27) considers treason against the homeland a very serious crime, punishable by severe penalties.
2. Brazil’s riches: protection and value for all Brazilians
Our land is literally rich. The Amazon, the Pre-Salt layer, minerals and biodiversity, for example, are unique assets of our country and must be valued and protected by every citizen. The Constitution (Articles 225 and 20, §1) determines that they must be used for the benefit of the Brazilian people.
It is worth noting that foreign investment is welcome when it genuinely participates in and drives Brazil’s growth in accordance with the law — bringing counter benefits like infrastructure, technology, jobs and innovation — but it is sellout when it implies giving up control and allowing strategic decisions to be made outside Brazil. Our challenge is to attract capital intelligently, imposing sovereignty and respect as non-negotiable conditions.
3. Brazil’s foreign policy: alliances yes, submission never
Article 4 of the Federal Constitution defines fundamental rules for Brazil’s relations with other countries, emphasizing national independence and non-interference. This means Brazil must conduct its foreign policy independently, forming partnerships only when the country’s interests come first.
Negotiating as equals is not a choice; it is a constitutional obligation. Brazil refuses to be a supporting actor in its own history and has the right to decide its path, whether in trade, environmental or strategic agreements. For this reason, we seek fair partnerships that respect our laws and bring real benefits to the people, rejecting any form of submission or intervention.
4. Food, energy and economic sovereignty
Brazil’s sovereignty depends on control over vital sectors such as energy and food, ensuring well-being, stability and the ability to meet our basic needs without external subordination. At the same time, it is essential to strengthen the national industry to transform our resources into higher value-added products, generating skilled jobs, innovation and more resources for health and education.
Under the Federal Constitution, foreign investment is welcome only if it respects our laws, preserves national control over strategic areas and contributes concretely to the country’s development and the direct benefit of the Brazilian people — never compromising economic and political independence.
5. Combating fake news and sabotage
False narratives and manipulated discourse have been used as weapons to weaken institutions and attack the country’s sovereignty. Those who today ask for “US intervention in Brazil for human rights” are the same who historically (and ironically) have disregarded this issue countless times. Former president Jair Bolsonaro even called human rights the “manure of laziness.”
The traitorous duo Eduardo Bolsonaro (who idolizes torturer Carlos Ustra) and Paulo Figueiredo (grandson of João Figueiredo, the last president of Brazil’s dictatorial regime) even asked the US Congress to sanction Minister Alexandre de Moraes and for the US to intervene in Brazil under the Magnitsky Act, directly attacking national sovereignty. In other words, they support a coup d’état and dictatorship but now speak of “human rights.”
What is worse is recognizing that political figures who openly (!) defend torturers and coup attempts now try to invert reality. They claim that investigating crimes against democracy is “dictatorship.” It is the upside-down world: those who attacked sovereignty pose as victims while those who uphold the law are accused of oppression.
6. National defense: against external threats and internal betrayal
Brazil’s sovereignty depends on protecting its territory and autonomy against foreign interference. Ensuring this integrity is essential to maintain our political, economic and strategic independence.
However, today the greatest threat also comes from within: Brazilians (false “patriots”), including abroad, who call for foreign intervention because they fear being arrested after the discovery of the attempted coup and assassination plot against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Vice-President Geraldo Alckmin and Minister Alexandre de Moraes. Defending sovereignty means rejecting any internal or external attempt that compromises the country’s independence.
7. Sovereign future: warning to the financial market
Sovereignty is the foundation that supports all pillars of national development: food security, strong industry and independent science. Without it, Brazil loses the ability to transform its riches into prosperity, eradicate poverty, guarantee quality education and lead initiatives such as the green revolution.
That is why it is essential for the financial market — centered in São Paulo’s “Faria Lima” district (Brazil’s equivalent to Wall Street) — to understand that a democratic rupture, such as a coup d’état, would not bring stability, but rather capital flight, currency devaluation and loss of international trust. Defending sovereignty means protecting the wealth of companies, investors and every citizen.
Conclusion: Defending sovereignty is the duty of all Brazilians
Ultimately, protecting sovereignty is not only the role of the government and the Armed Forces — it is the responsibility of every Brazilian. It means voting thoughtfully, combating falsehoods, supporting national industry, defending the Constitution and rejecting any submission to external or internal interests that threaten the country.
Brazil faces powerful forces seeking to weaken our autonomy. Maintaining control over our fate is essential to guarantee development, security and justice for the Brazilian people. And we have something even more valuable: the ability to decide, together, that Brazil will be the master of its destiny and a shining example of prosperity, justice and freedom for the entire world.
