
BRICS 2025: ministerial meeting in Rio advances trade, peace and sustainability

From June 3 to 5, 2025, the National Congress of Brazil will host the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, bringing together lawmakers from member countries and partner nations in Brasília.
The current composition of the BRICS+ includes 11 member states: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Iran. Nine partner countries will also participate: Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan.
What is the BRICS Parliamentary Forum?
O Fórum Parlamentar do BRICS é uma iniciativa que fortalece a cooperação entre os parlamentos dos países membros, promovendo o diálogo político, o intercâmbio legislativo e a construção de uma agenda comum voltada ao desenvolvimento sustentável, à justiça social e à governança global.
The BRICS Parliamentary Forum is an initiative that strengthens cooperation among member state parliaments by promoting political dialogue, legislative exchange and the development of a common agenda focused on sustainable development, social justice and global governance

The forum will address challenges shared by the participating countries, including:

- Trade, investment and finance
- Climate change
- Artificial intelligence
- Peace and international security
- Institutional development
Side events to strengthen diplomacy and women’s leadership
As part of the official program, two high-level side events will take place on June 3:
- The second Meeting of Foreign Affairs Committee Chairs of BRICS Parliaments, aimed at reinforcing political and diplomatic alignment among legislative bodies
- The second BRICS Women Parliamentarians Forum, which seeks to increase women’s representation in politics and in the bloc’s decision-making processes

By hosting the forum’s 11th edition, Brazil reaffirms its leadership in international cooperation and positions itself as a strategic actor in shaping a more balanced global order. The event, held ahead of the BRICS Summit in July, underscores Brazil’s commitment to a global agenda grounded in sustainable development, social justice and multilateralism.
