BRICS makes progress on its own payment system
9 de July de 2025Billionaire investments, new agreements and cooperation in renewable energy mark the Brazil-India Economic Forum in Rio de Janeiro.
The relationship between Brazil and India gained new momentum during the Brazil-India Economic Forum, which took place on July 7, 2025, in Rio de Janeiro. Organized by ApexBrasil, the event brought together authorities, businesspeople and investors to consolidate a partnership that goes far beyond trade: it is a strategic alliance between two of the world’s largest emerging economies.
The president of ApexBrasil, Jorge Viana, highlighted that Brazil has become one of the world’s main destinations for foreign investment. He emphasized that India represents a significant opportunity with enormous potential to be explored, especially given the strong ties between the two countries, the size of their markets, and the current low diversification of their trade agenda.
Brazil and India sign agreements to strengthen investment flows
Demonstrating the commitment of both nations to deepening ties, the Forum served as the stage for the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). The first, with the India-Brazil Chamber of Commerce (CCIB), aims to enhance trade cooperation and attract investment. The second, signed with the company Nidec-Embraco, formalizes an investment of over USD 120 million for the construction of a compressor manufacturing plant in India.
Rising exports, Opportunities in agribusiness and renewable energy
Brazilian exports to India have grown by an average of 13.7% per year since 2019, reaching USD 5.3 billion in 2024. Products such as sugar, oil, cotton and vegetable oils lead the export portfolio, but diversification is already underway.
One notable highlight is the oilseed group, which has seen growth of over 1,400%, thanks to the opening of the Indian market to Brazilian sesame. Additionally, more than 380 trade opportunities have been mapped by ApexBrasil, with emphasis on fuels, pulp, machinery and equipment sectors.
In terms of investments, India already ranks among the six largest Asian investors in Brazil, with a stock of USD 2.9 billion. Investments have been growing particularly in the energy, technology and pharmaceutical sectors.
Strategic alignment for a sustainable future
Cooperation in renewable energy is another pillar of the partnership. Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, president of COP30, highlighted Brazil’s clean energy matrix and India’s progress in solar and wind generation.
This energy synergy is essential for building a low-carbon economy — one of the top priorities of the upcoming climate conference, which will be held in Belém, Pará (Brazil), later this year.
Brazil and India in BRICS: a joint voice for a more balanced world
The simultaneous holding of the BRICS Summit, on July 6–7, 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, reinforced the roles of Brazil and India as key players in global governance. Both countries advocate for a more representative, fair and multipolar international system — an agenda also shared within the India-Brazil-South Africa Dialogue Forum (IBSA).
President Lula’s statement, read by the Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade, and Services (MDIC), Márcio Elias Rosa, was clear: “In today’s global context of tariff wars and protectionism, integration between Brazilians and Indians is strategic.” He also advocated for a diversified export agenda and a stronger productive sector.
Brazil and India are aligned on common goals: more trade, more investment and more sustainability. ApexBrasil is at the heart of this transformation — connecting opportunities, expanding partnerships, and paving the way toward a shared future of prosperity.
Brazil and India are doing more than just good business — they are building a long-term strategic alliance that combines economic growth, innovation and sustainability. In the current global scenario, marked by trade tensions and climate challenges, this partnership emerges as a smart and necessary response. Together, Brazil and India have everything it takes to lead the next era of global development.
